As Simone Bellotti prepares to present his debut for Jil Sander on September 24th, the brand’s new creative director hasn’t shared any teasers of the forthcoming collection just yet. Instead, he has focused the brand’s communications on his special musical project in collaboration with electronic artist Bochum Welt.
Following the release of a Hamburg-set music video for the track “Wanderlust,” the brand has officially released Welt’s JS EP on vinyl and streaming services. Bochum’s 11-track EP features a mixture of ethereal ambient, IDM (indie dance music), and experimental house.
Simone Bellotti’s collaboration with the musician is deeply inspired by the brand’s Hamburg roots. Founded in 1968, Jil Sander’s EP evokes the advent of electronic music pioneered by German artists like Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk.
The musical movement coincides with the development of Jil Sander’s signature design aesthetic, combining late 20th-century power dressing and modern minimalism. Bochum Welt’s debut was released via Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label in 1994, the same year Jil Sander’s first showroom opened in Milan, which eventually became the creative and operative headquarters of the company.
Jil Sander’s Bochum Welt JS EP is available now on vinyl at the brand’s stores and web shop, as well as on all streaming platforms.
