After presenting its Spring/Summer 2021 collection with a “show in a box” back in July, LOEWE returns with a new range of plant-based home scents and potted candles. Creative director Jonathan Anderson based the new line on the raw essences of a vegetable garden. The selection of scents references memories of his childhood—part Victorian botanical garden and part apothecary.
Eleven plant essences take the form of candles, wax candleholders, home fragrances and rattan diffusers—all housed in artful ceramics. Smells include honeysuckle, beetroot, juniper berry, tomato leaves, oregano, cypress balls, ivy and more. Ribbed terracotta pots, inspired by a 5th century BC Greek mug Anderson bought at auction years ago, hold the candles, while classic Louis XIV-era French ambeau informs the shape of the other base. The candles are made with wax derived from natural ingredients and are embossed with a LOEWE monogram.
Like the candles, the packaging is also made in Spain. Anderson worked with photographer Erwan Frotin, who is known for his highly-detailed photographs of the natural world, to create images of each plant. The photographs appear on a colored background on the box of each home scent.
