Jenny Holzer returns to the Guggenheim Bilbao to install her iconic “Truisms” artwork onto the facade of the historic Spanish institute. The artist’s return to the museum marks the latest collaboration following her 1997 commission for the museum’s opening which saw her unmissable text projected onto its atrium and towering columns.
The neo-conceptualist has also included an augmented reality component that allows fans of her work to experience the installation entitled “Like Beauty in Flames.” Other works include two pieces made for her 2019 retrospective “Thing Indescribable” which encompass a vertical LED sign called “There Was A War” and the light projection For Bilbao.
Altogether, Holzer’s signature text-based art is reimagined into three various AR experiences: two site-specific works that interact with the Guggenheim Bilbao’s structure and one that can be accessed from devices from across the globe. “Like Beauty in Flames” can be accessed via a dedicated app for mobile devices, developed by London-based digital agency Holition, which is available to download from The Apple App Store.
